Membership Policy
The Peterborough Public Library shall provide, free of charge, access to and the use of materials and information services within the library in accordance with the Public Libraries Act.
Free membership
The lending services of the Peterborough Public Library are available without charge to persons of all ages residing or owning a business or property with in the boundaries of the municipality of the City of Peterborough. Institutional memberships are also available.
The Peterborough Public Library Board has granted free memberships to students residing outside of the City of Peterborough but attending a school located within the City of Peterborough.
We acknowledge that this land is home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. The Peterborough Public Library Board provides free memberships to Indigenous people living in Ontario.
Paid membership
Peterborough Public Library lending services shall be available to other persons upon payment of a fee. This policy shall be in compliance with the Public Libraries Act. Current fees are listed on our Library Cards page.
Contractual agreements
The Peterborough Public Library may also establish mutually agreeable borrowing arrangements with contracting municipalities or reciprocal borrowing with surrounding townships. The terms of such agreements shall be ratified by the Board.
