To ensure the safety of our members and staff during COVID-19, most adult and teen fall programs will be delivered through a variety of online platforms or as take-aways from the library.

We have a variety of programs and activities for teens – some programs are for both teens and adults, while others are specifically created just for teens. Check out our Events Calendar for a full schedule of all library programs. If you have any questions or suggestions for teen programs, please let us know!

Whether you're just starting to explore watercolour or are eager to expand what you already know, Creativebug Instructor Sasha Prood will help you unlock a treasure trove of new skills and fresh inspiration. Begin with the basics, like wet-on-dry vs. wet-on-wet, flat washes and colour gradients, and then experiment further with lifting, masking, and layering using an array of mixed media.Throughout the month, you'll alternate between learning one technique at a time and creating a small composition that highlights each new technique. Sasha will also talk you through her process of developing a piece of art, from research to sketch to final painting.

Sashiko embroideryNovember: Daily Japanese Sashiko Challenge

Begins Monday, November 1

Online registration begins September 15 at 10:00 am and closes on October 15 at midnight.

Creativebug mixed media artist Lisa Solomon shows you 30 designs in the Japanese tradition of sashiko stitching. This beautiful and functional embroidery can be traced back to the thriftiness of 17th century Japanese peasant women. You will learn their traditional patterns, which you can then use to make decorative pieces or mend and patch garments. No matter the method you choose, you'll find that sashiko is a great way to slow down and stitch with intention, creating beauty from simplicity.
