As a temporary, interim measure, overflow shelter beds are being set up in the lower level of the Peterborough Public Library each night after the Library closes while the City looks for a longer-term location.

The overflow shelter beds are available from 9 p.m. until 8 a.m. daily, outside of the normal operating hours of the Library. The schedule ensures that the service does not interfere with activities at the Library. Intake workers and security are onsite during these hours to offer support to people looking for housing and ensure safety.

Overflow beds are provided for people who are homeless when they’re unable to be accommodated in the regular emergency shelters – Brock Mission, Cameron House, and YES Shelter for Youth and Families.

The City continues to work with its community partners to find an alternate location for the overflow shelter beds, as well as to address issues of precarious housing in Peterborough.

Thank you for your patience as we work through this.
