Friends of the Library
The Friends of the Peterborough Public Library (FOL) are a group of dedicated library supporters who volunteer their time sorting through donations from the community, and organizing and running semi-annual book sales. The FOL also manage the books for sale in the lobby of the Main Library.
The Friends donate over $20,000 to the Library each year which helps to support Library collections and programs.
Lobby Sale
The FOL are stocking the lobby shelves with books normally found in their annual sales. New items are added every Tuesday and Friday -- visitors can browse the books and pay what they can for whatever items they want. Like the sales, all proceeds support Library collections and programs.
Donate to the Friends
Donated items must be in good condition. Preferred items include:
- English books
- Audiobooks on CD, music CDs and DVDs
- Popular fiction and nonfiction for adults, young adults and children - including prize winners
Unfortunately, the following cannot be accepted:
- Government publications, pamphlets, magazines
- Reader's Digest condensed books
- Textbooks older than 5 years
- Encyclopedia sets

Donations are accepted at the Main Library during the following times:
10:00 am to 2:00 pm on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
Donations can be placed on the conveyor belt behind the small door on the southwest corner of the library off Bethune St. (faces Shoppers Drug Mart).
Book Sales
Most categories of fiction, non-fiction, and audio/visual material sell for $1.00 per copy, while bestsellers, children's books, and collectibles are priced individually.
