The Main Branch of Peterborough Public Library is open for in-person browsing and borrowing. At this time, the DelaFosse Branch remains closed. 

COVID Safety

  • To allow for physical distancing, please try to keep your visits brief to ensure that everyone gets a turn. 
  • Masks or face coverings are required.
  • Everyone is required to maintain a physical distance of 2 m. 
  • Please self-screen for COVID-19 symptoms prior to entering the building.
  • Contact-tracing is no longer required at the door.
  • The quarantine period for returned materials has been lifted.

In-person Programs

  • Proof of vaccination is required to participate in indoor in-person programs.
  • Masks or face coverings are required.
  • Everyone is required to maintain a physical distance of 2 m. 
  • Screening for COVID-19 symptoms is required.
  • Contact tracing information will be recorded.

Library Services

  • The book shelves are available for browsing and you will be able to check out books as normal.
  • Your holds will be available for pickup on the holds shelves.
  • A limited number of public computers are available for use. These are physically distanced and have a time limit of 60 minutes per session to ensure everyone gets a turn.
  • Printing services are available. You can print from our public computer stations or from your USB at the self-service Xerox machine. Alternatively, you can email your print jobs to and we will print them from the Info Desk.

  • Room Rentals and the Library Café remain closed at this time. Individual study rooms are available for booking.
  • Programs will continue to be offered online or as take-aways throughout the summer with the exception of Story Time in the Park
  • We are reintroducing some in-person programs in the Fall.
  • The DelaFosse Branch remains closed at this time.

Everyone will be required to self-assess before entering the building. If you are feeling unwell or have symptoms of COVID-19 you should visit an assessment center and follow their recommendations prior to entering this building. If you are experiencing severe symptoms call 911.

 Health and Safety

The library has implemented many new protocols to ensure the safety of our staff and community including:

  • mandatory masks for all library staff and visitors
  • additional hand sanitizer stations installed
  • plexiglass shields at customer service points 
  • physical distancing reminders throughout the library to stay 2 m (6 ft) away from others
  • increased cleaning protocols throughout the facility; including the public washrooms, stair railings, and door handles. 


Q: If I have fines on my account, can I still borrow material from the library?

A: YES! The library has removed any blocks on accounts so that everyone with a Ptbo Library card can access our online and physical items during this challenging time.  

Q: I don’t have a library card, what can I do?

A: If you aren't already a library member, fill out our online membership form to request a library card and someone will get back to you in 48-72 hours.

Q: I put a book on hold, will I be able to pick it up later?

A: You can place holds on titles through our online catalogue and pick them up at the holds shelf when they are ready. Please watch for your hold pickup notification for more information.

Q: Can I still return books once I am finished with them?

A: Yes, our book return is open! Feel free to bring your books back when you’re done.

Q: Can I still donate my books to the Friends of the Library?

A: The Friends of the Library are not accepting donations at this time. Once they start back up and are comfortable sorting books while remaining safe, they will once again be able to accept donations. You can follow the Friends on Facebook or subscribe to updates on the FOL website.

Q: Can I book at room at the library for a future date?  

A: Our Room Rental service is currently suspended.
