We've got a lot of fun programs and events planned for kids of all ages and reading levels. Check out some of our programs below and bookmark our online calendar so you never miss an opportunity to hang out with us.

Silkscreened T-shirts with Skye

Registration is required. Space is limited.

Silkscreen and paint yourself a unique and artful T-shirt! Must provide your own plain white/light coloured T-shirt.

Summer Sing-a-long!
Thursday, July 5th
2:00 – 3:00 pm in the Storycorner
All ages, Drop-in
No registration required.

Kate’s bringing her instruments and limberjack dancing dolls.  You bring your voices and together we’ll sing in the summer with fun and silly songs and tunes.  Participation required!   

Storytime in the Park
Tuesdays 10:30 am
All ages, Drop-in

Look for us this summer in natures most beautiful reading nook - a park! We will be popping up in various parks around Peterborough this summer for the ultimate storytime experience! Bring a blanket or chair, sunscreen, hats, water and friends. Weather dependant - alternate location in Storycorner at Main Branch PPL.

Reader’s Theatre 
Wednesday, July 11th
10:30 – 11:30 am in the Storycorner
All ages, Drop-in
No registration required, but we ask that you come at the start of the program.

Help bring stories to life with Readers Theatre this summer! Kids will read aloud from scripts created from children's books and use costumes and props to enliven the performance. Young family members and friends, who aren't reading yet, are welcome to form an audience with a role all their own. 

Chess for Kids
Thursday, July 12th
2:00 – 4:00 pm in the Storycorner
Ages 6+
Registration is required.

Did you know that the International Olympic Committee considers chess a sport? Join Michael from the Peterborough Chess Club and learn more about chess and how to play the game! Basic rules and strategies will be introduced.  Beginners and more experienced players are welcome. 


PJ Storytime 
Monday, July 16th 
6:00 – 7:00 pm in the Storycorner
All Ages, Drop-in

Drop-In for kids of all ages.  Wear your PJs, and bring your family, friends, and stuffies to participate in interactive stories, songs, and rhymes. Includes a fun activity for the whole family!

Down to Earth presents “Oceans Alive”

Oceans cover two-thirds of our planet. This extraordinary ecosystem is an oasis for discovery! Grab your snorkel gear and sense of adventure as we delve into the world of uncountable and unimaginable species!

Kids IMPROV experience with Ray & Dan
Wednesday, July 25th

Dip your toes in the Improv world with games and exercises that will have you thinking on your feet.

Drive-In Movie Night 
Thursday, July 26th
5:30 - 6:30 pm In the Storycorner
Ages 3-6
No registration required, but we ask that you come at the start of the program.

Who doesn't love the drive-in? We're turning our storycorner into our very own PPL Drive-in complete with a popcorn treat! Please bring a cardboard box and we will help you decorate it and get you ready for the movie.

5:30 -6:00 pm: We'll provide all the decorative detailing to make your very own “CARdboard box. 
6:00 pm: Drive on up and watch the movie: Franklin’s Reading Club (G) 12 min

Coding for Kids: Animating with Scratch

Wednesday, August 1st
in the FOL Community Room
10:00 – 11:30 am for Ages 6-8
2:00 – 3:30 pm for Ages 9-12
Registration is required. Space is limited. 

The Code Mobile presents this beginner level workshop offering learners the opportunity to express their creativity in a super fun environment, and learn about the different elements of a story, as well as basic coding principles. Using Scratch, a kid-friendly coding environment, learners will create interactive stories through animation!

The Code Mobile initiative is funded by the Government of Canada.

Kids can KNIT!
Thursday, August 2nd
2:00 - 3:30 pm in the Storycorner 
Ages 6+ 
No registration required, but we ask that you come at the start of the program.

Knitting is creative, relaxing, and fun! It helps children's intellectual development by using both sides of the brain! (Because both creative and math skills are used). Fun activities and hands-on help will be provided to guide children through learning the basic stitches.

Please bring your own knitting needles and yarn if you can. Needles and yarn will be available to use as well.

Paddling Puppeteer “Plugging into Nature”
Wednesday, August 8th 
10:30 am in the FOL Community Room
All ages.

Edward loves his TV, Facebook, and PlayStation. But one day, a squirrel chews the power line and he ventures outdoors and is able to make a connection to nature.

Funding for this program is provided through the Healthy Kids Community Challenge.

Hula Hooping with Basia

Come and learn the basics of hula hooping with Basia and then give it a whirl yourself! Kids of all ages will enjoy this fun, interactive program and best of all, no experience is necessary!

Movie Night: The Breadwinner (PG 13) 97 min

Powerful, intense animated tale of life under Taliban rule. Based on the young adult novel by Deborah Ellis, it tells the story of eleven-year-old Parvana who lives with her family in one room of a bombed-out apartment building in Kabul, Afghanistan.  As conditions grow desperate and forbidden to earn money as a girl, Parvana transforms herself into a boy and becomes the breadwinner.

Nominated for Best Animated Feature at the Academy Awards 2017.

Taking Care of BEES-ness with Kathy Reid-Naiman

Songs, stories, tongue twisters and chants all about the benefits and importance of bees in our world. Learn about bee anatomy, beekeepers, the different kinds and colours of honey, types of bees and their social aspects.
